I noticed that all the trees along the avenue near my home bore a similar scar at the same height. I counted more than 300 and documented them. An elderly forest ranger later told me that some 40 years ago the trees had been “marked” with an axe, with the intention of cutting down the entire avenue. Local residents and associations rose up in protest and managed to prevent the felling. This action marked a turning point in forest management policy.
